Damage Containment In Your Flood Damaged Hicksville Home

Flash flooding can be devastating for many homeowners. The damage occurs in minutes, damaging your home, the contents, and sometimes the structure. Secondary damage from contaminated areas spreading to uncontaminated areas can cause much more damage if biohazards and chemicals are involved.

SERVPRO provides flood damage cleanup to homes and businesses in Hicksville and surrounding areas. We understand how easy it is to spread contamination through airflow and foot traffic when proper procedures are not followed. We always assess the conditions and prepare a containment plan for our employees and the client to follow. We aim to minimize the amount of secondary damage by avoiding the spread of contaminated materials.

Containment Plans

The objective of a containment plan is to prevent the spread of contaminants to other areas of the building. This process also protects our SERVPRO team members as well as our clients. A containment plan may fall into one of three areas: Source Containment, mini-containment, and full-scale containment.

Source Containment

All contaminated materials are wrapped in plastic or sealed in plastic bags and removed from the building for disposal.

Mini-Containment

For small areas, a containment area is built and wrapped in 6-mil plastic. The area is large enough for a SERVPRO technician to work, clean, wrap, or remove contaminated materials. Every item is bagged and passed out of the enclosure for disposal or moved to a designated clean holding area.

Full-Scale Containment

We set up work areas to contain contaminants from spreading to other areas. We may create a decontamination area to decontaminate materials, workers, and equipment. An equipment room may also be needed to store items waiting for cleaning, decontamination, and processing. We store clean and uncontaminated items in a clean, uncontaminated room. There may also be rooms set up for cleaning & disinfecting contents and an area to load bagged contaminated materials on trucks for disposal.

While managing containment of contaminated materials may seem complicated, SERVPRO has a great deal of experience handling these flood situations. Protecting our clients and employees is a high priority while we clean your home after a significant flood.
